Artists Statement

I am fueled by the current state of the rise of Fascism and hate in the US and around the world. As a queer, non- binary human, I am fearful of the direction things are going. I am fueled to make art that processes this world around me as well as my own path. EVERYONE has the right to be who they are, and to grow to love and embrace that. People are freely spewing hate. Hate is exhausting. Humanity has to come to a reconciliation.

Queer, non binary people have always been present. Gender bending embodying the divine masculine and feminine, blurring the lines, exists in every culture. Instead of hate and fear, perhaps with art, it is my hope new understanding can be achieved. I challenge my queer folx to come together and demonstrate the power of love over the power of hate. We can teach the world how to love us, by loving each other and ourselves more.

Clint Frederic Wiater is a non-binary/queer artist, vocalist and activist, living in San Francisco. Originally from Wisconsin, they grew up more comfortable in the artistic expressions of music, being both an instrumentalist and vocalist. They studied art concurrent to human development and psychology at University of Wisconsin, Green Bay. Inspired by a lecture in environmental psychology and a desire for inner happiness, while battling addictions and confronting trauma and self-value issues, Clint sought peace of mind through a prolific phase of creativity. His brut, highly emotive early art works, tapped into a deeper desire to learn more.

Over the years, themes of identity, place, and spirit emerge in his bodies of work as he creates in multiple mediums. Chaos and order are presented in dynamic, thoughtful roving landscapes in his series, “Moving Through”. His dream-like work is often informed by his love of the San Francisco Bay Area and its features, having created an ever growing body of cityscapes multiple mediums. His background in psychology, personal trauma and continued stops and starts of recovery are often documented by his visual art as is his discovery of queerness, and their change in identifying as a gay male, to identifying as a queer, non-binary human.

Clint is equally as passionate about using art to build community and connect to others Their activist art is created both as a means of processing the world around, and to raise is own voice as threats against the LGBTQ+ community continue to arise.

“In all my queerness and humanity, I know what it feels like to be suppressed, surpassed, abused, marginalized, ostracized, and rejected. I understand the importance of being seen, supported and represented. With the current state of hate and violent rhetoric, it is important that queer art be made, supported and seen, so that queer voices are heard, respected and understood. There are still people in the world that think and teach others to think that we are less than human. No one, is less-than. Everyone is worthy of love. The Fight Isn’t Over.”

“Art is a powerful tool, perhaps Humanity’s most important. Art is a space where healing can be found. It can bring people together. It can make people see the world in a new light.”

“As a queer artist, I often channel the historic use of colors and what they represent according to the first LGBTQ Flag ever sewn by Gilbert Baker, 1978. The original flag contained pink , representing sex and turquoise representing art and magic. A six color flag that the world came to know, is a lesser reflection of our humanity. Sex and art and magic is where our most human powers exist. Healing can be found in these intimate spaces. Pink and Turquoise”

“I believe art, music, and all creative expression empowers humanity. It must be made, consumed, and reflected upon. I want people to look at and into my work. There is always a deeper meaning. I have deep love for humanity. I hope it is felt by my viewers.” ~CFW

THE POWER OF ART

“In addition to activist art, I create a lot of love letters to the spaces that I love. The Bay Area is filled with monuments that I admire and identify with. This is a very special city to live in. It is home.”
